DESCRIPTION:July 22\, 2026\, 10 am – 2 pm \nInstructor: Eileen Holzman \nLevel: All Levels \nCost: $50 (includes materials and light refreshments) \nPictures speak louder than words as our drawings created from prompts that Eileen will give to students. The drawings will illicit comments from the artist and then from the group. People will be able to share their drawings and communicate memories and feeling that may surface. This will be relaxing and enjoyable as we share our stories. Student is asked to bring photographs of their families copied so they can be cut up for artwork. A 30-min lunch break will take place. Please bring your own lunch. \n  \nWhat the student will learn:  Students will learn about themselves and how some memories and dreams may have importance. \nWhat will the student take home with them: Students will create several drawings\, collages and the writings that were inspired by them. \n  \nInstructor bio— \nEileen Holzman lives in Oregon and is a retired art educator and art therapist (registered and board certified). She is presently giving art therapy sessions with seniors in long term residential communities. Her paintings have been in juried art shows locally\, statewide and nationally.

The goal is to foster curiosity as we approach the world with wonder. SUMMARY:Forged Bamboo Desk Lamp
DESCRIPTION:Intermediate Blacksmithing Workshop\nInstructor: Joe Elliot \nThis two-day workshop focuses on designing and forging a sculptural desk lamp inspired by the form and growth of bamboo. The class is geared toward students with intermediate forging skills who are ready to combine traditional hand forging with light fabrication techniques. \nOver the course of two 6-hour days\, students will complete a fully functional forged steel desk fixture\, including a wired socket and base. \n  \nSkills Covered\nParticipants will deepen their skills in both forging and fabrication\, including: \n\nForging controlled tapers and organic forms\nUpsetting and isolating material for bamboo “nodes”\nHot piercing and shaping irregular openings\nRiveting and mechanical assembly\nForging and texturing leaf forms\nBasic fabrication techniques: \n\nDrilling\nTapping\nWelding (MIG or stick\, depending on shop setup)\n\n \nLayout and proportional design for functional objects\nBasic lamp wiring and socket installation\n\n  \n  \nMaterials & Construction\nStudents will work with the following materials: \n\n3/8” steel plate for the base\n3/8” round stock for forged leaves\n3/4” Schedule 40 pipe for the bamboo stalk\n\nLamp socket and wiring components (provided) \n\n\nThe project emphasizes intentional surface texture\, clean joinery\, and thoughtful transitions between forged and fabricated elements. \n  \nFinished Project\nBy the end of the class\, each student will leave with: \n\nA completed forged steel desk lamp\nA deeper understanding of combining sculptural forging with functional design\n\nPractical experience integrating electrical components \n\n\n  \nSchedule\nAugust 12th & 13\, 2026 from 9am to 4pm \n\nDay 1: Forging the bamboo stalk\, nodes\, leaves\, and base components\nDay 2: Piercing\, riveting\, fabrication\, welding\, final assembly\, and wiring\n\n

SUMMARY:Hummingbird Class with Anton Yakushev
DESCRIPTION:This is a beginner class. \nDiscover the art of hand-forged metalwork in this hummingbird sculpture workshop! You’ll learn to work with various metal thicknesses\, experiment with different forging techniques\, and bring your own unique style to life. By the end of the class\, you can choose to turn your composition into a functional 2D sculpture\, perfect for display or everyday use. This experience is ideal for anyone looking to combine creativity\, technique\, and the elegance of nature in their art. \nWhat to wear/safety equipment : \n-Cotton pants and long sleeved shirt (synthetics are potentially flammable). \n-Leather boots (NO open toed sandals/shoes-tennis shoes are not recommended for safety). Make sure your pants fit over the tops of your boots so nothing hot can fall in. \n-Safety glasses\, ear plugs\, and a dust mask. Long hair must be tied back. \n-Leather gloves to protect your hands and a notebook to take notes. \n-Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated\, and snacks if you want. \n  \nRegistration ends one week before the class date.  If you would like to sign up for this class after that day\, please contact us at ccacblacksmith@cascadiaart.org\, and we will try to accommodate you.  \n  \nClass Cancellation and Registration Policy \nIf the minimum enrollment of three (3) students is not met at least one (1) week prior to the scheduled class start date\, CCAC reserves the right to cancel the class without obligation\, upon timely notice to the instructor. Registration closes one (1) week prior to the class start date. If the minimum enrollment has been met\, late registration may be permitted with instructor approval. Students seeking to register after the deadline must email CCAC to inquire about availability.
