SUMMARY:Introduction to Blacksmithing - One-Day Class
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Jon Anderson\nLevel: Beginner- no prior experience required\nDate: June 20\nCost: $275 \nHave you ever wanted to shape iron to your will? Now’s your chance!\nThis one-day Introduction to Blacksmithing class is perfect for beginners with little to no experience.\nYou’ll learn the fundamentals safely\, confidently\, and hands-on from the start.\nThroughout the day\, you’ll discover: \n\nShop safety and forge basics\nHammer control and efficient striking techniques\nFundamental forging skills such as drawing out\, tapering\, bending and twisting\nProper use of basic blacksmithing tools\n\nThis is a fully hands-on class\, and each student will complete foundational projects\, leaving with their\nown forged creations. All materials are included. Just bring sturdy boots\, natural fiber clothing\, and a\nwillingness to learn. \nSpots are limited to six to keep instruction personal and focused. \nCome spend a day at the anvil and discover the art of blacksmithing! \nWhat to wear/safety equipment : \n-Cotton pants and long sleeved shirt (synthetics are potentially flammable). \n-Leather boots (NO open toed sandals/shoes-tennis shoes are not recommended for safety). Make sure your pants fit over the tops of your boots so nothing hot can fall in. \n-Safety glasses\, ear plugs\, and a dust mask. Long hair must be tied back. \n-Leather gloves to protect your hands and a notebook to take notes. \n-Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated\, and snacks if you want. \nRegistration ends one week before the class date.  If you would like to sign up for this class after that day please contact us at ccacblacksmith@cascadiaart.org and we will try to accommodate you.

DESCRIPTION:June 20\, 2026\, 12 pm – 3 pm \nInstructor: Clover Clausen \nLevel: All Levels \nCost: $45  \nUsing real stones and gems in jewelry can be costly\, time consuming\, and there is often a steep learning curve. In this class\, we will use simple to learn techniques coupled with a wide array of beautiful colors (i.e.\, powders\, inks\, and foils). When combined with translucent polymer clay\, any color and style of faux stone can be achieved\, and experimenting with different combinations of colors often results in unexpected\, breathtaking\, one of a kind pieces. \nStudents will take home:  Several pairs of earrings (as many as can be made in the allotted time).
